Ultimate Guide to Homeschooling Teens

A couple of weeks ago I read the book, Ultimate Guide to Homeschooling Teens by Debra Bell.  Here is a link to her personal website:  http://debrabell.com/

For the past few years I have had my fingers in my ears when someone spoke to me about homeschooling for High School.  I did not want to hear anything about it.  High School was intimidating to me.  I am not sure why.  I teach college level courses.  I understand what is needed to be a college student.  For some reason, High School has become this great task that I am not sure I could handle.

This next year I will have an official High School student in our home school.  My oldest daughter will be in 9th grade.

If you have had doubts about High School as I have had, I recommend this book.   After the first chapter, I decided this was a book to keep notes.  The author laid out High School in an easy and understanding way.

She explains the importance of time management, ownership of studies and strategies for thinking skills.  One of the wonderful things about homeschooling is that everyone does not use the same philosophy.  I think that is why I was unsure of this book.  However, she really goes across the spectrum and explains things so that everyone can gain from reading her book.  There were multiply recommendations for High School subjects.   I really enjoyed her input on college level courses while in High School.   I found that what she spoke about complimented what we are already doing.

If you have a child that you are homeschooling or thinking of homeschooling ages 12 and up, I recommend this book for your bookshelf.  You will find it a good resource.
