HS Biology

There is so much information as we are entering HS.  Biology is one of those areas that requires a lot of research.  There is a wealth of information on the internet and tons and tons of free resources.  Everything listed is free unless otherwise noted. I felt the best way to sort through this is to start a list on the blog of good resources: CLEP STUDY GUIDES

• http://www.freeuniv.com/lect/biopage.html  - Has online biology text and is outlined with resources as you would need to study for the Clep exam.
• http://clep.collegeboard.org/exam/biology/resources#smr02 Contains text resources for the Clep Exam, outline of what is needed for the exam and study questions.
• http://www.free-clep-prep.com/Biology-CLEP.html - Online study guide for the CLEP exam.  It is broken down by what is on the exam.  Great tutorials.

BIOLOGY LIVING BOOKS

• http://charlottemason.tripod.com/biology.html - Excellent Resource for books that can be used for supplementing.
• http://www.squidoo.com/apologiabiology - This link has living books that coordinate with Apologia. We are not using Apologia but thought it was a great resource.
• http://oll.libertyfund.org/index.php?option=com_staticxt&staticfile=show.php%3Ftitle=2185&Itemid=27  This website has the original writings of Newton, Darwin, etc.  It is not just limited to science, however, this link takes you to Darwin's Writings.

BIOLOGY LABS

• http://www.homeschoolsciencepress.com/shop/biology - This is a link to a lab workbook and data book developed by a homeschooler.  It lays out experiments and how to write lab documentation. (NOT FREE)
•  http://labpaq.com/  This is a highly talked about resource for your lab materials.  (NOT FREE)
• http://serendip.brynmawr.edu/sci_edu/waldron/  Contains many ideas for hands on understanding of Biology.

ACTUAL ONLINE LABS TO VIEW

• http://www.ucopenaccess.org/courses/CPBioLabs/gen_course/index.html Actual labs that are through University of California.   They are diffusion, enzyme catalyst, mitosis, plant pigments, meiosis, molecular biology, population genetics & evolution, transpiration, heart rate & temperature, animal behavior, dissolved oxygen, aquatic primary activity.
• http://dissect.froguts.com/ -ONLINE DISSECTION LABS to view.  (NOT FREE) $30 yearly subscription.  Have heard wonderful things about this.

BIOLOGY GUIDES

• http://quarksandquirks.wordpress.com/biology-hs-level/ - A homeschool mother created her own lesson plan.  This includes many interactive videos, project ideas, tests, etc.    Uses Campbell's Concepts & Connections, The Way Life Works and Biology Coloring Book.
• http://www.ucopenaccess.org/course/view.php?id=75- Regular Biology- University of California has this actual online course, with videos and online text.   Everything you need to study biology.  (and it is free)
• http://www.ucopenaccess.org/course/view.php?id=67 AP Biology- University of California offers the AP Biology course.  They use Campbell's Biology for the text (I believe this is referred to as the Big Daddy Biology Book).  
• http://ocw.mit.edu/courses/biology/7-012-introduction-to-biology-fall-2004/ MIT offers many courses for free on what is called Open Course Ware.  This is a Intro Biology Course.  You would need a basic biology  understanding to complete this.  I have watched some the lectures and they are interesting.
• http://www.hippocampus.org/  -This website has full class schedules for Biology.  They even link with various biology textbooks.  This is not only for Biology there are other classes as well.
• http://www.ck12.org/flexbook/ This is an online textbook.  It has Ipad and Kindle ready books.  There are websites embedded into the text to various informative videos about what has been read.  You can request exams and instructor resources to go with the books.  They have other books besides Biology.

BIOLOGY WEBSITES

• http://www.biology.arizona.edu/DEFAULT.html This website is from the Arizona University.   It contains many links and tutorials on Biology.
• http://homebiology.blogspot.com/ - Homeschool mom has created this wonderful blog for biology.  It includes many links for biology and some online labs they did with their microscope and the computer.
• http://www.khanacademy.org/#biology - Great tutorials for Biology.  Covers things such as red blood cells, muscle cells, heredity, DNA, Myosin, Actin
• http://www.brightstorm.com/science/biology/This website is similar to Khan Acadamy.  There are multiple subjects with video tutorials.  I really like the way this is set up in categories for Biology.  FREE
• http://www.biology101.org/studyguides.php - Great resource with tutorials on various subjects covered in Biology

• http://wps.aw.com/wps/media/access/Pearson_Default/5329/5457129/login.html Campbell's Biology Concepts and Connections, 6e website. Does require a fee ($30)  This is one of the textbooks that we plan to use. (NOT FREE)
• http://millerandlevine.com/intro.html   Miller and Levine Dragonfly Biology Book website.  FREE has a wealth of information, podcasts, videos, etc.
